What I expected going into this career day shadow was that it would be very exiting and we would go on calls and help people in need. What it turned out to be was what I expected.
Some of the questions that I asked the guy that I shadowed was......
"what is the typical workday like?"
It is usually very busy because we are the busiest station in San Diego county so we get the most calls, and we have chores that we have to do to keep the station clean. We also have to keep the firetruck clean and organized.
"what are some of the requirements to be in this profession?"
You have to have a high school diploma/GED, and you also have to have 2 years as a fire cadet, 1 semester in CPR training, and 1 year of the firefighter academy.
"what do you like about your job?"
I really love this job because I really enjoy helping people who are in need of help and I feel like we are making the world into a safer place by doing what we do. I also like this job because it has a fun environment and you do connect very well with your fellow firefighters because you do technically live with them because of the 24 hour shifts that we work.
"what is the job environment like"
The job environment is very friendly and the people that you work with you do tend bond with very well because of the 24 hour shifts.
Reflection of the day:
The day was very fun and I really enjoyed myself and I would totally do another shadow day there. In fact I actually planned another shadow day there and im also planning on doing my internship with them. This shadow day is definitely one to remember.
